Getting The Most Out of Your Trip + -
Fitness and Skill Requirements
Ensuring you are on a Ride that's right for you, and ensuring you are ready for the physical and technical demands of a Ride, is of utmost importance to us. It helps ensure that you will be riding with people of similar skill level and won't be holding up the group or be held up by others - and can ride at the pace you want to ride at.
This is a challenge for the whole mountain bike adventure industry, but here's how we're addressing this issue:
-
We've developed a detailed 9-point skill and fitness rating system, with the help of one of our most senior coaches and guides
-
When booking, we ask each Rider to tell us about their mountain biking experience, and to let us know if they've ever traveled with their mountain bike. The answers are reviewed by our staff and provide valuable insight as to whether or not the desired Ride is a good fit for them.
-
We follow up with a phone call if we think a Rider might not be quite up to the challenge (or might be 'over qualified') for certain Rides and discuss their skill level and fitness in detail to discover whether they are indeed a good fit, or if another Ride might be more suitable
Please pay attention to the skill and fitness ratings for the Ride(s) you're interested in, and be honest in your self-assessment. For more information on skill and fitness ratings, please click here.
Ride Add-ons
Many of our Rides offer add-ons to help you get the most out of your Ride. From mountain bike rentals, to single room upgrades, to massages, there are often additional options to help you have the best experience possible.
To book your Ride add-ons, select them when you make your initial booking.
BIKE AND GEAR INFO AND PACKING LIST + -
Traveling with your bike
If you're bringing your own bike and have never traveled with a bike, don't worry - it's much easier than you think! If you don't have a case for your bike, then you can pick up a cardboard travel box for your bike at your local store. Some stores will also pack your bike up for you for a fee.
Alternately, if you are planning on traveling with your bike more than just this one time, we recommened a dedicated bike bag. These are travel bags especially made for bikes and offer a much more substantial level of protection over a cardboard box, yet aren't as heavy (extra flight charges!) or as bulky as hard-shell cases.

Tools to Bring
We recommend bringing the following tools with you. Rest assured your guides will have a full tool kit, but it's a good idea to have the following items with you in case of trailside breakdowns:
Spare Parts for Your Bike
Although there are usually parts available locally, we recommend you bring the following parts with you to avoid problems in case of broken parts:
-
Rear derailleur hanger (these are specific to each bike/bike brand, so the right one can often be hard to find at bike shops)
-
1-2 spare tubes (our guides can't realistically carry enough 26", 27.5", and 29" tubes for everyone)
-
Any rare parts that might be hard to find locally (Shimano and SRAM are generally available in all our locations, but Magura levers, for instance, might not be available everywhere)
N.B. If you are renting a bike, the above is not necessary (with the exception of a few spare tubes).
Destination information + -
Food
Trail snacks are provided
Vaccination
Please visit the MD Travel Health website and navigate to your destination country for information about any vaccinations you may require prior to traveling, or please visit your local travel clinic for the most up to date information (we can't offer advice, we're not doctors!)
Best Way to Use/Get Local Currency
Generally the best way to get local currency is to use local ATMs when you arrive. Your bank will usually charge you a small fee to do this (typically around $5), and you may also get charged a fee by the local bank, but you will generally get a reasonable exchange rate (as opposed to local banks or money exchange desks).

Cancellations
You may cancel your reservation and get 100% of your money back as long as you give us appropriate notice:

Travel Insurance
Travel medical insurance is mandatory for all of our trips if you are traveling out of country or out of the region where you have medical coverage (we need to confirm that someone will cover your medical/evacuation bills in case of an incident).
If you have your own travel medical insurance it needs to:
a) cover evacuation (e.g. air evacuation) and hospital costs while in other countries
b) cover mountain biking trips (some policies include mountain biking in their list of 'extreme' sports that are not covered).
Your travel medical insurance should cover the following:
• Medical expenses up to $50,000
• Emergency medical transportation up to $1,000,000
You should also consider purchasing comprehensive trip insurance:
• Trip cancellation up to 100% of your trip cost
• Equipment protection for delay, loss, theft and damage (if traveling with your bike/expensive equipment)
• Trip interruption up to 100% of trip cost
Tipping
We encourage you to tip your guides if you feel you have received excellent service and have had an enjoyable trip. A typical gratuity is between 10% - 15% of your Ride price per guide, depending on your level of satisfaction. e.g. $500 trip = $50-$75 per guide.
